How to Send a Netmon SE System Snapshot
From Netmon
If you have a successful experience installing Netmon SE (either the full or trial version), it would be very helpful to the Netmon support team to be given the hardware configuration of your system.
To make it easier to provide this information, Netmon SE includes a special command-line script which will send a snapshot of your system configuration to our support team.
In order to run this script from the Netmon graphical desktop, follow these steps:
- Start the Terminal. Click the "Applications" button at the left side of the system menu bar (at the top of the screen). On the dropdown menu, navigate to the "Accessories" submenu and click "Terminal".
- If you are not logged in as the root user, become root. In the terminal, type the command "su" and press enter. You will be prompted for the root password. If you have not changed the system root password, it is "netmon".
- type the following command into the Terminal and press "enter": python /apache/cli/snapshot.py
You will be prompted to enter some data about your company, the hardware you are using, and your comments on your installation experience. Please follow the on-screen prompts.
Once the interactive part of the script is finished, several commands are run on your behalf to probe the system hardware and software.
Netmon SE will send the data to our support team via SMTP (port 25 outgoing). If you filter port 25 going out of your network, you may have to configure your firewall to pass this traffic.
New (preferred) method:
You can send a snapshot by logging in to the web interface and clicking the "Help & Resources" tab on the right-hand panel. Then click "Request product support" and then click the "click here" link on the support form.
