How To Access the Netmon Command Prompt
Often times Netmon Technical Support will ask you to run a command on the Linux command prompt. This explains how to get to the command prompt remotely or locally.
Remote SSH Access
SSH is like telnet, but its traffic is encrypted. Download putty, a free SSH client, from http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe
Run putty.exe, and enter in the following information for a new connection:
Instead of 192.168.1.199, enter your Netmon device's IP address or hostname.
Once you connect, login with root, and the default password is netmon. Once logged in, change your default password with the passwd command. Keep this new password in a safe place. If you lose it you will be unable to access netmon's command prompt.
Local Access
If you have a keyboard and monitor attached to your Netmon device, you can access the command prompt locally. Log into the graphical desktop with netmon and password netmon. Run the Terminal icon found on the desktop.
Run the command su to switch to the root account. Enter the password netmon, which is the default password. Once logged in, change your default password with the passwd command. Keep this new password in a safe place. If you lose it you will be unable to access netmon's command prompt.
